Lead forms are the tools that feed your list of prospects. They are the most important element on your landing page. Without them, there are simply no new leads.
But in creating your lead forms, don’t make them tedious and scare people away. Forms should be easy for people to fill.
Let’s take a look at how to build great lead forms.
How long should the form be?
How much or how little information you require through a form mostly depends on the value of your offer and how far along the decision-making process your prospect is.
For example:
- If your lead magnet is something simple, like opting in to a newsletter or downloading a PDF, it would be best to simply ask for an email address in this first instance. You will receive a lot more entries from simple forms. And that means, a lot more inboxes to spread your marketing.

- In contrast, if the prospect is requesting a free consultation which will be a unique discussion about improving their particular situation, you could request a lot more information, such as company size and annual profits. The detailed feedback would help you in preparing for the meeting and not waste time. You might even decide from their information that you are not suitable for the prospect, or vice versa. Saving time, again.

Make Form Questions Easy
Longer forms can be made less daunting if you take a lot of the work out of filling the answers.
You can take a lot of the pain away and make the forms more user-friendly if you:
- Include multiple choice questions: Offer mostly
pre-empted answers so the user can simply select one.

- Include example text or instructions to clarify questions.

- Keep long answer questions to a minimum so the user doesn’t have to work hard.
Is “Submit” a good word?
One of the best ways to increase form conversion rates is to simply NOT use the default word on your button: “SUBMIT.”
Instead, turn the statement into a benefit that relates to what they are getting in return.
If your form is to download a brochure kit, the submit button could say something that stirs some excitement, such as –
“Get Your Time-Saving Brochure Kit.”
Other examples: “Get your free bonus today!,” or “Get more sales right now!”
